Major
Addition - Add a
Bungalow
or "In-law Suite"
Designing
an In-law suite or Bungalow to become an integral, but still a private
part of your existing home in which a retired or aged parent may live,
is an excellent option for your parent to be close enough for your assistance,
but it also allows family members to have their "space."
The parent may still cook and keep house but on a smaller scale. It
does wonders for the parent's self esteem and attitude. This type of addition
is very marketable and will add greatly to the value of your home.
ARD is very
familiar with the requirements for Bungalow and Cottage designs to be
approved by the local Building Permits Office.
- Design
an attached Bungalow off of the rear of a 30-year old contemporary house.
- The
cosmetics of the new addition, as with any remodeling project, should
be consistent with the existing structure so that it looks like the
original design and construction.

The Screened
Porch is enclosed with windows and doors and becomes the Bungalow's
attachment to the existing home. This, in addition to the Bungalow
being on the same utility meters as the house, satisfies the requirement
that the addition be connected to the existing home with a shared
heated and cooled area.
